It’s that time of year again, time to give thanks and get ready for the holidays. At Axiom, it is a time for us to say “thank you” to all our clients. Our annual wine tasting event is coming up tomorrow Tuesday the 24th of November. This year we will focus on the wines of Portugal.
Here are some fun facts about Portuguese wine:
- Portugal has two wine producing regions protected by UNESCO as world heritage sites – the Douro Valley wine region and the Pico Island wine region.
- Wines from the Douro Valley region claimed three of the top four spots in the 2014 Wine Spectator’s top 100 ranking, including a number blue ribbon for a 2011 vintage port.
- Portugal has a treasure trove of more than 250 native grape varieties.
- If you wondering who consumes the majority of Portuguese wine, you don’t have to look too far. The northeast United States is the number one cork popper of Portuguese wine.
