Trends: What Will Work Look Like?

It is doubtful that Greek philosopher Heraclitus was thinking about how people work when he said, “The only constant in life is change.” But his thoughts definitely apply to work-life in 2021. The pandemic turned how we do business upside down, and many think more change is on the horizon. In this article in the Harvard Business Review, experts share marketing trends answering the question, what will work look like? Here are two we find interesting for marketers:

“Employers will look to “rent” talent to fill gaps.”

According to the article, companies listed about 33 percent more skills on job ads in 2020 than they did in 2017. They’re looking for skills their current employees may not have. At Axiom, we see this as an opportunity. Creating partnerships with agencies like ours gives you a breadth of experience you won’t find in a single-person hire. Plus, we’re nimble enough to help out with short- and long-term projects to help you get the job done.

“Flexibility will shift from location to time.”

We’ve already proven we can get work done and be productive from anywhere. The article predicts that the next wave of flexibility will be changing when employees are expected to work. Say goodbye to the standard 40-hour week. Creative types are reading this and thinking “Hallelujah! I do my best work at 2 a.m.!”
