Pantone 2022 Color of the Year

Marketers are at the ready! Yesterday, Pantone announced its color of the year for 2022, sending marketing and communication teams in just about every category into a flurry of activity. How are you incorporating Very Peri into your projects?

At Axiom, we love the connection. For our horticulture and home teams, color is a central part of any marketing message. But how did the Pantone Color of the Year become such a launch pad? The organization has been forecasting the hot, new color for more than 20 years. But, in recent years, the announcement has become rocket fuel for a much larger discussion.

In a CNN article, Pantone vice president Laurie Pressman says picking a color of the year began as a way to spur conversations around the power of color. But even company officials seem to be surprised by the growth of those conversations. Pantone Color Institute’s executive director, Leatrice Eiseman calls the buzz both astounding and delighting.

For the first time ever, Pantone created a brand new color for 2022, saying the transformative times we live in demanded something brand new. Veri Peri “places the future ahead in a new light.” The color was unveiled as a piece of digital art, not just the typical Pantone chip. The company is also fostering new partnerships with Microsoft and others, proving that it is not just designers who crave the power of color.

Overall, the Color of the Year is a story of good marketing. Eiseman says that once you get people talking about color, they realize it is part of just about everything in our lives. Creating a common connection, with a hopeful and interesting story is hitting the mark.

So, do you love Veri Peri or hate it? Either way, you’re likely talking about it.

Periwinkle aka Very Peri, has been my favourite colour for over 50 years. About time everyone else caught on to its fabulousness.
